How AuraScan Works: Aura Intelligence Scores, Explained

AuraScan is not an AI judge. It is a transparent, Aura Intelligence estimate that measures only what you can act on — and refuses to guess when the photo is not good enough.
What is AuraScan?
AuraScan is the analysis engine inside Lookauramax. It examines one photo, measures your Aura Signals, and explains every score with Why and Action. It scores only traits you can act on. Low confidence means no score. It never rates attractiveness.
Most face apps hide their method behind "AI." That word sounds impressive, but it tells you nothing: what was measured, how, and how confident the result is. Lookauramax does the opposite. AuraScan's method is deliberately clear and explainable: it measures Aura Signals, applies clear, explainable checks, and shows you bands, reasons, and confidence. If you cannot understand a score, you cannot trust it — and if you cannot trust it, it should not be shown to you.
Step 1: one clear photo
Take one clear, front-facing photo in good light. The scan reads Aura Signals — brightness, sharpness, framing — and refuses to guess when the photo is not good enough. After analysis, the photo data is wiped from the working buffer. What syncs to your account is small data: the resulting scores, your plan, your progress, your Aura Streaks, your settings.
There is no photo library on a server to leak.
Step 2: photo quality is checked first
Before any trait is scored, the app checks whether the photo is good enough to be fair. It looks at brightness, sharpness, framing, and whether the face is reasonably centred and front-facing. A photo that is too dark, too blurry, or badly framed produces a low-confidence reading — and a low-confidence reading produces no score.
That is a deliberate choice. A bad photo with a confident-looking number would be a lie: it would punish you for lighting, not for your skin or hair. The honest response is a retake prompt with specific guidance — more light, steadier hand, face centred — plus one free retake if the first scan was low-confidence. See our scan photo guide for the full setup.
Step 3: clear, explainable checks measure Aura Signals
For photos that pass the quality check, the engine measures ratio-based Aura Signals — things like local variation, texture, edge sharpness, and colour consistency across regions of the frame — and applies fixed, explainable checks to produce trait scores. Every signal is a ratio (variation relative to the mean), not an absolute brightness value. That matters: it means the same photo, darkened, produces nearly the same scores. Absolute lightness is never a score input, so darker skin and darker photos are never scored lower for being darker.
The engine does not detect identity, does not recognise who you are, and does not compare you to other people. There is no face database, no crowd ranking, no "people like you" model. There is your photo, measured against fixed checks.
Step 4: bands, not numbers to obsess over
Results are shown as bands: Needs Work (below 50), Good (50–74), Great (75 and above). Internally, scores are 0–100 for trend tracking, but the app does not present a precise-looking number as if it were a measurement of your worth. Bands are honest about the precision of the method: the difference between 62 and 64 is noise; the difference between Needs Work and Good is a real signal.
Scores also stay in a narrow, non-shaming range. The method never produces extreme low scores designed to scare you into paying, and never produces extreme high scores designed to flatter you. Every trait result carries three things: Why (what the measurement saw), Action (what to do about it), and confidence (how much to trust this reading).
What AuraScan scores
- Skin: clarity and evenness signals from the skin region, framed as texture and consistency — not colour or lightness.
- Hair: neatness and condition signals from the hair region.
- Brows: tidiness and definition signals from the brow region.
- Beard (opt-in only): scored only if you opt in. Skipped entirely otherwise.
- Smile: a framing and expression proxy — capped, because a photo cannot measure how your smile feels in person.
- Posture: a framing hint from head and shoulder positioning — guidance, not a medical assessment.
- Photo quality: brightness, sharpness, and framing — because an unfair photo deserves a retake, not a score.
What AuraScan never scores
Attractiveness, bone structure, jaw shape, age, race, inferred gender, medical conditions, surgery need, comparison with others, and skin lightness. These are either unchangeable, unmeasurable by a photo honestly, or things no app should judge. If a trait cannot lead to a useful, safe action, it does not belong in a score.
The fairness gate
Every method has limits, and honest products state theirs. AuraScan includes a fairness gate: if a trait reading drops by more than 15 points in a way that suggests a measurement problem rather than a real change, that trait is skipped, not scored low, and the limitation is disclosed. A skipped trait is not a failure — it is the system refusing to guess.
Two honest caveats. First, the regions are frame-geometry approximations — the engine does not run face detection, landmarks, or segmentation, and the Why strings say so. Second, no fairness claim is made before a 200-photo human review is completed. Until that review is done, the app does not claim to be "fairness-verified." The gate exists, the limits are disclosed, and the verification is still to come.
Why "Aura Intelligence, not AI" matters
Calling something "AI" implies a system that learned from data, generalises, and can be wrong in ways nobody can explain. AuraScan is the opposite: fixed checks, applied the same way every time, with results you can read and challenge. The same photo produces the same scores. The method can be described in a document. And when it is unsure, it says so.
That transparency is the product. A glow-up app earns trust by showing its working — not by hiding behind a buzzword.

Is AuraScan AI?
No. AuraScan is an Aura Intelligence estimate, not AI. It uses clear, explainable checks from measured Aura Signals, and every result says so plainly.
What does AuraScan score?
Only actionable traits: skin, hair, brows, opt-in beard, smile, posture, and photo quality. Results show bands — Needs Work, Good, Great — plus Why, Action, and confidence.
Does AuraScan upload my photo?
No. The photo is used only for your scan, never shared. Only small data like scores and progress syncs.
Why did AuraScan give no score?
Low confidence means no score. If the photo is too dark, blurry, or poorly framed, the honest answer is to retake it — not to invent a number.
Disclaimer: AuraScan provides Aura Intelligence estimates, not medical advice, diagnosis, or a measurement of attractiveness. Results depend on photo quality and are a starting point for routines, not a clinical assessment.
